Register

dotRadio is open!

Since 15 November 2017, you can register your dotRadio domain(s). The first come, first served principle applies.

The eligibility criterion remain identical to those defined for its launch, and dotRadio is definitively reserved for the Radio Community.

How to request your domain name

To request a .radio domain, you should contact a registrar (company selling internet domains) providing it has signed an agreement to sell .radio domains,

or the Registry flagship store on register.radio .

The owner of a domain can transfer it at any time from one registrar to another.

Cost?

The cost for registering a .radio domain name will depend on the registrar* offering the product, since registrars define themselves their price and their marketing policy. It also depends whether some additional services are included in the yearly fee (like hosting, mailing).

(*) Registrar=seller of domains

Typical costs are between 200€ and 250€ per domain and per year for radio stations, internet radios, radio products, radio related companies, radio related brand.

For individuals, very small radio stations and clubs, there is a reduced cost of around 25€-30€ but these domains are subjects to prerequisites and rules. They should follow some formatting rules for individuals (callsign.radio or firstname-lastname.radio) and for small radio stations and clubs, there are prerequesites such as:

  • o should be non profit,
  • o limited number of employees (not taking into account volunteers),
  • o limited annual budget.

All registrations for the category "lower cost" are validated by the registry.

Launch timeline (for reference)

During the launch phase, the process was not ‘first come, first served’.

The dotRadio team was seeking to optimize domain name allocation to solve contentious issues and prioritize existing radio services.
